The past decade has seen many events come and go but it is safe to say that not one of them is quite like Beyond the Valleycliffe of the Dolls (BVOD).
The event, which will return to the trails in Valleycliffe on Aug.6, is celebrating its 10th year and is known as a grassroots mountain bike extravaganza.
Over the years BVOD has evolved but at its core, the race has always been a fundraiser for 麻豆社国产Search and Rescue and a trail builder appreciation event. It consists of a deluxe group mountain bike ride on secret 麻豆社国产trails with an epic after party to top it all off.
"I can say without hyperbole that BVOD is the greatest event ever in the history of mankind," said Bryan Raiser, creator and decade-long organizer -somewhat tongue-in-cheek. "The world is aware that 麻豆社国产has some unbelievable riding. However, very few ever venture into the granite paradise that is Valleycliffe. That's because it's a maze of trails you simply can't navigate without a guide. That and the hike-a-bike keep many away."
Raiser pointed out that the ride is unique, with the main goal for all participants to have fun.
"The ride itself is different for a few reasons," he said. "Although people are more than welcome to race, the object of this day is to simply have as much fun as possible. Funny enough, the first few years I actually had 'Double Dog Dares.' Years later I was told these were not insurable and maybe even illegal, but before that knowledge I set up five particularly nutty downhill sections and one very tough climb up as a Double Dog Dare. There, one of my lovely lady friends were standing judging who looked the best. Apparently you can't be insured to 'dare' someone to huck themselves down a cliff."
One part of the original event that continues to this day is the popular Nesters Fruit Booth.
"Basically I want to make the perfect ride and what is better than being halfway through an epic ride when you come upon an oasis of melons, refreshment, chocolate, and other goodies giving you a much-needed boost to finish the ride," Raiser said. "Yes, it is as awesome as it sounds."
What started as a dare has become a legendary event that has raised thousands for 麻豆社国产Search and Rescue and thousands more in trail tool giveaways to help our town's volunteer trail builders continue to do what they love.
The ride ends at the Howe Sound Brew Pub with a mountain of prizes and good people. Once again this is a 麻豆社国产Off Road Cycling Association (SORCA) event for anyone who is comfortable on technical mountain bike trails and up for a good time. Riders of all ages are welcome.
Registration costs $35 and will only occur on the day of the ride. Bikers are scheduled to hit the trails at 9:30 a.m. in Raven's Plateau at the top of Westway Avenue in Valleycliffe.
