Adam Campbell completed the triple-crown at the 麻豆社国产50 event on Sunday (Aug. 17).
The Victoria resident won the 23-kilometre race in 2012, the 50-mile race in 2013 and capped it off by winning the 50 km race in 2014.
Campbell posted a time of 4:55:08 to win the race and praised the trails of 麻豆社国产after his third big win.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a really hard course, but the overcast weather really helped with things today,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here is such an amazing community of runners out there today and these are some world-class trails in Squamish.鈥
Campbell beat out Squamish鈥檚 Eric Carter for the win, but Carter was having his personal battle with women鈥檚 winner and third place finisher Ellie Greenwood.
Carter edged Greenwood by only three seconds and the pair motivated each other.
鈥淗e was two minutes ahead of me at the Mountain of Phlegm, so I was gunning for him,鈥 Greenwood said. 鈥淚t would have been nice to beat him, but he had a really strong finish.鈥
Carter said he was aware of Greenwood closing the gap.
鈥淚 was sprinting as hard as I could especially at the end,鈥 he said, exhausted at the finish line. 鈥淚 saw her coming up in the park on the other side of the bridge and we were running neck and neck for a while.鈥
麻豆社国产runners also had a good day on Sunday鈥檚 23 km race, with locals Silas Wiefelspuett and Brad Schalles placing second and third respectively. Nike-sponsored athlete Mario Mendoza won the race with a time of 1:45:28, with Wiefelspuett three minutes back and Schalles four minutes off.
鈥淭ough race, but awesome community support,鈥 Wiefelspuett said.
