The Cannons celebrate a three-run home run.

A听little home cooking did the Howe Sound Cannons some good on Saturday (June 7).

The Cannons returned to Laroy Watt field for the first time in more than a month for a doubleheader against the Brewers and Howe Sound defended home turf with a pair of wins.

Howe Sound鈥檚 offence woke up in the fifth inning when David Jones connected on a three-run homer to give the Cannons a 4-0 lead.

The home run proved to be enough as starting pitcher Jeremy Galley allowed only five hits on two runs and added five strikeouts in the 5-2 win.

The scoring continued in Game 2 as the Cannons scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and it was capped by a two-run home run from Galley.听

Pitcher Kevin Smilie was effective on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits for the Cannons鈥 second straight complete-game win.

鈥淪milie battled hard for us out there today,鈥 said Manager Alex Wishy. 鈥淗e battled his control a bit early and worked around some shaky defence.鈥

Matty Taylor of the Cannons went 4 for 4 in Game 2, including his first career home run as a Cannon at Laroy Watt field. Kevin Mackie also had a multiple-hit game in the 8-3 win.

Howe Sound improved to six wins and four losses on the year and is in third place in the North Shore Men鈥檚 Baseball Association (NSMBA).

The Cannons return to action on Saturday (June 14) when the Athletics come to town for a doubleheader. First pitch for Game 1 occurs at noon.
