The Howe Sound Cannons kicked off their home baseball schedule right, winning both games in a doubleheader against the visiting Moose on Saturday (May 26).
Howe Sound won 8-1 in the early game and then edged the Moose 4-3 in the late game to improve to six wins and one loss in North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) league play.
"Troy Morphy and Jeremy Galley both hit home runs and manager Dave Jones just missed a grand slam with the ball landing just inches foul," said Cannons first baseman Tyler Magee.
The Cannons remain in first place in the NSMBA and travelled to North Vancouver for a re-match with the Moose on Tuesday (May 29) but results were not available at press time. Howe Sound will take on the Reds on Saturday (June 2) in North Vancouver and then host the Vernon Diamondbacks for three games the following weekend.
The club also participated in the second annual Twin Cities Invitational tournament in Ridge Meadows over the May long weekend, eventually coming up short.
"We lost our first game 10-6 vs. the Richmond Athletics but on a positive note 'Big Daddy' Justin Kraz hit a towering home run," Magee said. "We won the second game 3-2 in extra innings Sunday morning against the host Ridge Meadow twins and after this we played the Aldergrove Cubs in the pouring rain. The game was tied up in the bottom of the seventh when Kevin Mackie hit in the winning run."
