It was a forgettable end to an extended road trip for the Howe Sound Cannons.
The Cannons squared off against the Deep Cove Brewers in their first of two games on Saturday (May 31) and the bats of both teams were mostly silent.
A pitchers鈥 duel saw the game remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Brewers scored twice and that was all Deep Cove needed to win 2-0. Howe Sound only managed four hits and starting pitcher Jeremy Galley couldn鈥檛 get any help despite allowing only five hits and striking out seven.
Game 2 saw the Cannons fall behind 4-0 after three innings to the Vancouver Cardinals and they failed to close the gap, losing 5-3. Kevin Smilo was the Cannons鈥 top player on the mound and in the batter鈥檚 box, allowing one run in the game鈥檚 final three innings and picking up two RBI.
Howe Sound dropped to four wins and four losses for the year and it鈥檚 the worst start to the season in the past decade for the club.
鈥淚鈥檓 feeling the pressure,鈥 a concerned Manager Alex Wishy said after the pair of losses. 鈥淚鈥檓 managing for my job these next two weekends at home.鈥
A Cannons insider told The 麻豆社国产 that Wishy has called for an infamous Cannons 2 a.m. batting practice session to fire up the sputtering offence.
The Cannons finally return home for a doubleheader against the Brewers on Saturday (June 7). First pitch for Game 1 is set for noon and it will be Smilo to the mound for the first tilt, with Galley pitching in Game 2.
