Cannons take two on the road

Howe Sound moves into first with pair of wins

After splitting their opening two games, the Howe Sound Cannons bounced back, sweeping the A's in a doubleheader on Saturday (May 12).

The Cannons won 11-5 and 3-2, with both games needing extra innings to decide the winner. Howe Sound now sits atop the North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) with a record of three wins and one loss.

"Big Tor Purvis was hot, hitting in a game-winning run in Game 2," said Cannons first baseman Tyler Magee. "And our college pro 'Jackie-O' pitched a fine second game, holding them to only two runs through nine innings. The manager David Jones is looking younger every game as he is our team ironman."

The Cannons will next travel to Maple Ridge to defend their title at the Larry Walker Invitational Tournament over the May long weekend.

"This year's teams are very strong and they're looking to defuse the Cannons, so we have an uphill battle but are ready for the challenge," Magee said.

The team's home opener will take place on May 26 when the Moose come to town. A home run derby and barbecue are planned to celebrate the occasion.
