Cannons win NSMBA title

Howe Sound captures fifth championship in past six years

For the fifth time in the past six years, the Howe Sound Cannons are North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) champions.

The Cannons took Game 1 of the finals against the Pirates 2-1 on Thursday (Aug. 16) and then completed the sweep with a 7-3 win on Saturday (Aug. 18).

Howe Sound went undefeated in the postseason, capping a first-place regular season that saw the club post a record of 14 wins, five losses and one tie.

"Troy 'Billy' Morphy hit a walk-off single to win the first game in the last inning and Captain Jeremy Galley was monumental with his pitching and stick," Cannons first baseman Tyler Magee wrote in an email to The Chief.

Magee said the Cannons are thrilled to regain the NSMBA crown.

"It was a good team effort and the Pirates went down to us once again," he wrote. "Manager [David] Jones is on Cloud 9 as his team won again. As per tradition, we took the trophy to the fair at the PNE to watch the Heart concert, but the trophy had an accident on the roller coaster."
