Squamish's Eli Chappell was one of more than 900 swimmers competing in Montreal to be Canada's best at the 2013 Canadian Age Group Nationals event that concluded on Sunday (July 28).

The former member of the 麻豆社国产Pirates swim club competed in seven races at the event, with his top showing being a fifth-place finish in the 15-and-under 4 X 200-metre free team relay.

Others races Chappell swam in included: 15 and under 4 X 100 free relay (eighth), 100 freestyle (13th), 100 backstroke (13th), 200 backstroke (13th), 200 individual medley (14th) and 50 freestyle (16th).

Chappell, 14, spent some of July training with the North Vancouver-based Chena Swim Club. The Canadian Age Group Nationals event is under the auspices of Swimming Canada and is seen as a steppingstone toward a future in swimming for young swimmers. He will now take a month off of swimming before returning to the pool in North Vancouver in September.
