The waters of Nanaimo proved to be full of success for the ladies of the 麻豆社国产Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) on Saturday (July 6) and Sunday (July 7).
Team Chawanda competed in the Nanaimo Dragon Boat Festival and posted its best time ever in the 500 metres. Chawanda blazed through the course in 2:14:45 on Saturday, winning their heat and placing them into the Platinum Tier later that day.
The previous best time for the team was 2:19:39, set last year at the Victoria Dragon Boat Festival.
High winds caused some races to be cancelled on Saturday afternoon and action continued on Sunday with Chawanda missing out on qualifying to the Platinum A final by one tenth of a second. The team instead raced in the Platinum B division and won the race by nearly an entire boat length.
The team's next big race be will in Victoria on Aug. 17 and Chawanda will continue training on the Cattermole Slough in advance of the event.
