The weather outside is chilly but the action inside the Howe Sound Curling Club (HSCC) is heating up in January.
The HSCC kicked off the month with its annual open house on Jan. 6, which saw several new players hit the ice and learn the game from established club veterans.
January will also see the return of the popular Kids Rock program. Starting on Jan. 15 and for every Wednesday after, children will get to learn the ins and outs of the game from an HSCC vet.
The on-ice sessions consist of warm-ups, skills and game skills including sweeping. The classes start by getting kids familiar with the basics of curling and then moving onto specific skill development and game strategy.
Kids must be between eight and 14 years old. Teenagers interested in the sport can join the club's Friday night league for young adults.
The cost of the eight Kids Rock sessions is $33 and they take place from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays until March 5. Those who wish to register can do so in person at the front desk of the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf Club.
The HSCC's Friday Night Social League also kicks off this month, with games starting on Jan. 17 and running until March 7. All equipment is provided and the cost is $100 per player. The fall sessions of the Friday league saw a total of eight teams participate.
The annual men's bonspiel also invades the club this month on Jan. 11 and 12, with the mixed bonspiel occurring on Feb. 1 and 2.
