It turned out to be a deadly 2013 home debut for the Sea to Sky Sirens roller derby team.

The Kamloops based Tournament City Deadlies came to town and humbled the Sirens 243-99 at Brennan Park Arena on Saturday (May 25).

The Deadlies took a big lead early and didn't let up en route to the win.

They've got some heavy hitters, said Kristi Roxy Shocker Anderson following the game. We just couldn't get through, they can switch so quickly and have some really fast jammers.

The Sirens were playing without star jammer Genevieve Honey Badger Medrano and the team's top player Shannon Mala Justed Handley was also playing through an injury.

The other team was very strong, said Sirens head coach Stan Daside. Their blockers were really good on our jammers and were obviously able to score a lot more than us.

He said the team will have to tweak its offense in the future by playing more passive on offense. The Sirens continued to play aggressive offense, even when the Deadlies were controlling the play.

We need to toughen up our jammers a bit, he said. They were trying to sneak by but we need them to keep close to the centre of the track and let the blockers do their work.

The Sirens fell behind 123-42 at halftime but did get solid jams from Sweetie Gonzalez (13 points) and Raven Chaos (nine points). The Deadlies had a balanced attack with big jams from General Discomfort and Boffa-Licious.

The second half was more of the same but the Sirens began using Mala Justed as a jammer to close the gap.

We tried to save her, Daside said. But our jammers weren't scoring and we needed to get some points on the board.

Handley did just that, scoring 21 and 13 point jams in the second half to inch the Sirens closer. But the Deadlies were too much on offense and cruised to the win.

We kicked ass and played some awesome defence, said Yvonne The Terrible of the Deadlies. We were super jazzed to be here and it was really awesome to play in front of the 麻豆社国产fans.

Yvonne said the Deadlies stuck to a basic gameplan and also managed to stay out of the penalty box. Noah Backtalk, the team's guest head coach, said it was a blast to help out with such a talented team.

They played a really strong game and they've definitely been working really hard, he said. After seeing them play today, it's obvious that they deserve a spot in the provincial tournament.

He added that the team was very receptive to any of his suggestions and it was a smooth first time foray on the bench.

The Deadlies will next play a home game on June 15 before taking part in the provincials with eight other teams to crown a B.C. champion. The Sirens will return to Brennan Park also on June 15, when they host the Riot Girls from Vancouver.
