DRSS wins pair of banners

Mountain biking team triumphs at North Shore finals

Another year and another pair of banners for the Don Ross Secondary School (DRSS) mountain biking team.

The Grade 8 and 9 Boys teams snagged the overall championship banners for the North Shore School Sports Athletic Association (NSSSAA) after another strong showing at the finals on May 14.听

The final race of the season saw the DRSS Grade 8 Boys sweep the podium, with Holden Jones, Jessie McAuley and Jack Cormack placing first through third, respectively. The Grade 9 Boys saw DRSS student Parker Jaxon Mell place first and Hunter Verner place third.听

The Grade 9 Girls had two competitors reach the podium at the final race, with Kei Gray finishing second and Chloe Moberg placing third.

Verner and Mell were also first and second, respectively, in the overall Grade 9 Boys standings for the series. Gray and Moberg were second and third, respectively, in the Grade 9 Girls overall standings and Jones, McAuley and Cormack placed first through third for the Grade 8 Boys.

The day also concluded the year for cyclists from Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) and Rhys Verner flatted out just before the finish line and it cost him the race win. However, Verner took home the overall series win for the Senior Boys division after several other strong races earlier this year.

Nolan Heikoop was the other HSSS student to reach the podium after he placed third in the Junior Boys division. The next big event for many young racers is the Test of Metal in 麻豆社国产on June 14.
