A two-game playoff set with the Semiahmoo Ravens ended on a positive note for the 麻豆社国产Eagles Pee Wee rep team on Sunday (Feb. 23).
The Eagles scored early and often en route to a 7-2 win on home ice.
"We moved the puck really well and had some good goaltending today," said head coach Michael Lindgren. "I really liked our work ethic today and we executed well as a team."
Despite the praise, the Eagles were assessed a total of seven minor penalties. It's a trend that worries Lindgren but he said his penalty kill was up to the task against the Ravens.
"The penalties just keep coming because of our size and strength," he said. "I see why they're called and I can't say I would call it differently, but we do have a size and strength difference over a lot of teams in the league."
Lindgren said goalie John Hunter was the team's best penalty killer all night and he's had a terrific stretch in the crease.
"We just need to stay focused and we've been really strict on if the guys go for the body only, we will bench them," he said. "It's just that sometimes the collisions happen and the bigger guy will get penalized."
The Eagles opened the scoring 56 seconds into the game when Jeremy Smith scored and Devon Smith drew the assist. Ninety seconds later, Jesse Kryzanowski scored on another goal set up by Smith. The Ravens got on the board a few minutes later but Smith put the Eagles back up by two with just over five minutes remaining. Steve Grantham scored a minute later with Kryzanowski drawing the assist to put the Eagles comfortably up 4-1 after one period.
Grantham added an unassisted marker early in the second period and Bailey scored his second of the game, set up by Smith, to put the Eagles up 6-1. Grantham then completed the hat trick with 10 minutes remaining in the second period, with Joseph Harvey picking up the helper. Semiahmoo scored a late goal in the second period to make it 7-2 and nothing was added in a short third period.
The Eagles' next home game occurs on Sunday (March 2) when South Delta comes to town. Faceoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Brennan Park Arena.
