The 麻豆社国产Eagles Midget rep hockey team relished in the role of spoiler during its final regular season game on Sunday (Feb. 5).
The Eagles downed North Vancouver 2-1 on Sunday and ruined their opponents' opportunity to finish first in the division.
"If they would have won they would have clinched first place," said Eagles head coach Tony Mahood. "The boys played the spoiler role well tonight and it might have given them a little extra motivation."
It was a good final weekend for the team, as they edged Mission 5-4 on Saturday (Feb. 4) and finished the season with a record of nine wins, eight losses and one tie.
After a scoreless first period, Squamish's Jesse Penner opened the scoring at 2:15 but North Vancouver deadlocked the game 75 seconds later. Eagles goalie Chase MacDougall and North Vancouver goalie Julien Beck both played spectacular games between the pipes, frustrating forwards on both ends.
Beck was familiar to Eagles players Lucas Conway, Manny Parra and Liam Shard as he was the goalie on their Midget scholarship team, but the trio of Eagles didn't seem to have any secrets to pass along to their teammates.
Mitchell Hayden grabbed the lead back for 麻豆社国产58 seconds into the third period and MacDougall shut the door to allow 麻豆社国产to cling to the 2-1 win.
"They're a good, clean team," Mahood said of North Vancouver. "But our boys have been playing really well to end the season. We only had 11 skaters against Mission and tonight they didn't seem tired at all."
The Eagles will hit the road for the first round in the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA) playoffs this coming weekend with opponents and game times still to be determined.
