It was a case of d茅j脿 vu at the 麻豆社国产Slo-Pitch Association's (SSPA) annual May long weekend tournament.
For the second straight year, the ExCons took home the A Division title after hanging on to beat the Rippers in the championship game on Monday (May 20).
The ExCons picked up a 16-12 victory as the two local teams got to know each other quite well earlier in the day. With a berth to the finals on the line, the ExCons beat the Rippers in 10 innings. The Rippers then had to win another game to meet the ExCons in the final.
A local team also won the B Division when the Hooligans blanked the Moose 10-0. It's the second straight year a Squamish-based team has won the B Division as the Tire Irons won top prize last year.
The C Division was a different story as the Booze Hounds from North Vancouver defeated the Trashers from 麻豆社国产in the final.
The next big tournament for the SSPA will be the Spring League wrap-up on July 13 and 14. The second annual Andrew Pereman Memorial Tournament and the 麻豆社国产Locals Lottery tournament are both scheduled for August.
SSPA president Dave Southam said his group is also running Wednesday night drop-in sessions for all interested players at the Hendrickson Fields. Teams will be separated by gender and there is a $20 fee that covers you until the end of summer. Drop-in games start at 6:45 p.m. For more information on the SSPA, visit www.squamish-slopitch.com.
In other action on the diamond, the Howe Sound Cannons are back on the field and already sport a 5-0 record in North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) action.
The Cannons also competed in the Jerks/Bulls Invitational (JBI) over the May long weekend but lost in the finals 3-2 to the Richmond A's on Monday.
Howe Sound resumes NSMBA action on Saturday (May 25) in North Vancouver. The Cannons will kick off their home schedule on June 8 when the Brewers come to Laroy Watt Field. For more information on the team, visit www.ballcharts.com/hscannons.
