The two local juggernauts met again in the A division finals at the 麻豆社国产Slo-Pitch Association's (SSPA) spring league wrap up tournament on Sunday (July 14).
But unfortunately for the Rippers it was the same result as the final game back at the May long weekend tournament.
The Excons again took the top prize, defeating the Rippers 16-5, capturing the team's second tournament win of the season. The top seeded Excons received a bye in round one and beat the Tantalus Door Knobs and the Mowers to advance to the finals.
The Rippers, ranked third heading into the tournament, took out the Eagles and the Tire Irons to again face the Rippers in the finals.
In the B division, it was the Shady Tree DOA who rolled through the entire tournament to capture the division crown. DOA was ranked first heading into the weekend of games and defeated the Cliffside Wild Ones in the final.
The C division saw the Carney's Trashers complete a Cinderella run to victory. The Trashers were seeded sixth, but managed to upset several teams along the way and eventually defeated the top-ranked Murrin Blasters in the final.
It was a weekend full of activity for the SSPA, with the league's all-star game occurring on Friday (July 12) and tournament action on Saturday (July 13) and Sunday. SSPA president Dave Southam said there will be fall ball again this year with the season starting sometime in August and running until the end of September. In other local slo-pitch news, a local women's team will be heading to the provincials after a strong showing at a qualifying tournament in Burnaby on July 7.
Nice Shoes, comprised of 12 local females, placed sixth in the round robin, but then won all three playoff games they competed in to win the tournament and move on to the provincial tournament in Abbotsford later this summer.
The team competed against squads from Quesnel and all over the Lower Mainland to advance to the provincials taking place from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1.
