Hitmen flag a win
The Howe Sound Hitmen鈥檚 junior flag football game was cancelled due to rain Saturday, but the bantams played the Cardinals to see which of the 3-0 teams would land in first place.
Early on, quarterback Reniel Belandres threw a laser beam to Kolby Wilton to secure a 15-yarder for a first down. On the next play, Belandres pump-faked the pass and kept it for a 45-yard TD. Even with a tip by the defence, the team managed to get the two-point convert.听
From there, the Hitmen managed to hold a two-touchdown lead through the game, winning 24-12.
Belandres had three touchdowns, while Wilton and June Hyuk each had two-point conversions. Wilton was named game MVP.
Coach Troy Wilton said the rain works to the team鈥檚 advantage. He also said the defence was not as stingy as usual, though Kaden Nicholls, Marcus Hernandez and Belandres came up with big plays.
