麻豆社国产resident Jamie Finlayson, who has been climbing locally for close to 18 years, recently decided it was time to give back.
Earlier this fall, Finlayson finished a lengthy labour of love by completing a brand new climbing route on the Quercus Cliff at Murrin Park. Finlayson put the final touches on the Shaving with a Knife route and said he hopes the 5.13c graded climb is one that climbers will enjoy.
I have been climbing in 麻豆社国产for about 18 years now and I mainly climbed routes that other people had developed in the past, he told The Chief. The crag has been developed over the last few years and I am really glad I was able to contribute.
Finlayson said he spent a total of 16 days preparing the route climb and it turned out to be a challenging process.
Cleaning the moss and lichen off of the rock is a very time-consuming task, he said.One uses a wire brush to scrub the rock and itcan take days. Also, figuring out how to climb the blank face was challenging and required in total about 16 days of effort over a year.
The sequence of movesthat I figured out ended up being very unique and I was required to go almost completely horizontal. This is not a normal climbing move, especially for a less-than-vertical wall.
Shaving with a Knife is one of several routes on the wall at Quercus Cliff and Finlayson said he's heard a lot of positive feedback in the month since he finished the extension. He said it should be a nice addition to the popular wall.
The route complements the crag, adding another difficult line on the challenging Quercus Cliff, he said. The route has some very small holds and requires tough skin.
