The 麻豆社国产Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) U13 Fireballs wrapped up a successful season of soccer with a sixth place finish at the B.C. Youth B Provincials in Powell River, which took place from July 7 to 10.
The Fireballs qualified to represent the Coastal Region after a strong regular season where they finished with 11 wins, two losses and two ties.
The team first took on the Prince George Kodiaks on July 8, ending the game deadlocked in a 1 to 1 draw. However, there was some controversy as the Fireballs scored a late go-ahead goal to make it 2 to 1, but the referee disallowed the goal as an offside was called.
Next up were the Terrace Kermodes and, again, the game ended in a draw, this time by a score of 2 to 2. Again, there was more controversy in this game as the Fireballs did score a winning goal to make it 3 to 2 but the referee disallowed the goal as the goalie did not play the ball.
The team then took on Powell River, losing 3 to 1 in a game that may have been closer than the score indicated. The team wrapped up the tournament with a 2 to 1 loss to the Nelson Selects and ended up in sixth place out of eight teams.
The Fireballs would like to thank the SYSA, North Shore Youth Soccer Association, 麻豆社国产Fire Department Town Hall #1, Whistler Blackcomb, and Poul and Linda Christensen for their support and donations to make the SYSA U13 Fireballs dream of going to the B.C. Provincials come true.
