Five Peaks coming to Squamish

Popular trail running series to make local debut on June 9

For the first time in the event's history, the Salomon Five Peaks trail running series is coming to Squamish.

The series is well established in the trail running community with races taking place from coast to coast and more than 11,000 participants across the country.

Five Peaks' first foray into 麻豆社国产will take place at Alice Lake Provincial Park on June 9 and competitors will be running on a course designed by local endurance athlete Jen Segger.

Runners have the option of taking part in the sport (6.9 kilometres) or the enduro (11 kilometres) races and there's also a free, one-kilometre race for children. The 麻豆社国产event one of five races throughout British Columbia that will see some of the best trail runners battle it out. Other race locations include Golden Ears, Whistler Blackcomb, Buntzen Lake and Cypress Mountain.

The day kicks off at 9 a.m. with registration for the children's, sport and endure races, with the kids and those planning to walk hitting the trails 30 minutes later. Sport and enduro runners kick off their race at 10 a.m., with an awards ceremony honouring the top three men and women finishes taking place at noon.

Those who aren't sure about taking part in the race or those wanting to check out the course can participate in a pre-run of the trail on June 2. The pre-run will take place at 9 a.m. and is free for anyone interested, but registration is required. To do so, visit www.clubfatass.com/events/flash-5peaks-warm-up.
