Five Pirates qualify for provincials

Chappell, Lorimer, McIllwraith, Dale and Pedersen heading to Nanaimo

A fantastic fivesome of 麻豆社国产Pirates are off to the provincials after strong showings at the Vancouver and District Speed Swimming Regional Championships this past Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 4 and 5).

Eli Chappell, Sarah Dale, Mikayla Lorimer, Elizabeth McIllwraith and Wyatt Pedersen are all heading to the provincials in Nanaimo later this month to take on some of the best young swimmers in B.C.

Chappell won all of his events in a dominant weekend. He picked up wins in the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle. His performance in the 100 freestyle broke a regional record, as he topped the field with a time of one minute, 0.14 seconds.

Lorimer, just like Chappell, won all of her events, besting her opponents in the 100 IM, 50 butterfly, 150 backstroke and 100 freestyle. Dale placed third in the 50 free, second in the 50 butterfly, second in the 100 butterfly and second in the 100 breaststroke.

Rookie Pirate McIllwraith made an impressive debut at the regionals, finishing third in the 50 butterfly and second in the 50 backstroke. Pedersen qualified by finishing second in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 breaststroke. Pirates head coach Daniel Russell will be joining his team as he qualified in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.

Chappell, Dale, Lorimer and Pedersen will also be on their division's regional medley relay team for their strong showings at the regionals.
