Nicolas Jirot will always remember the 2015 edition of the 麻豆社国产Days 10-kilometre race.
The native of France recorded his first win in North America at the annual race on Sunday (Aug. 2), completing the course in 32:36. Jirot beat out second-place runner Ramsay Ezzat from North Vancouver by three and a half minutes and said it was nice to get his first win on the continent under his belt.
鈥淚t was my first 10 km race in about three months,鈥 he said, shortly after crossing the finish line. 鈥淚鈥檝e been doing some obstacle races and the Canadian Mountain Running Championships this summer, and I did this race to see where I鈥檓 at.鈥
Jirot said he鈥檚 training for the Vancouver Eastside 10 km in September.
鈥淚t was my first time doing this race and I had a very conservative pace at the beginning because I didn鈥檛 know what to expect,鈥 he said.聽
Placing third was Vancouver鈥檚 Sean Peicheff, with a time of 37:55.
James Newby from Garibaldi Highlands placed fourth overall and has the top local time of 38:25. He edged out Squamish鈥檚 Gord Addison by five seconds to be crowned as the fastest local runner.
Squamish鈥檚 Peggy Lai was the top female and placed 15th overall with a time of 41:32. Lai beat out Squamish鈥檚 Caroline Walter by 25 seconds to earn the top female title. Halfmoon Bay鈥檚 Teresa Nightingale (42:29) placed third.
A total of 108 runners completed the course and other 麻豆社国产residents with strong showings included: David Dorrans (ninth), Tim Moore (12th), Jamie Brandon (18th), David Smith (19th) and Sack Igarashi (28th).聽
Burnaby鈥檚 Lily Jones placed first in the 10 km stroller race with a time of 40:55, beating out Vancouver鈥檚 Josh Nelson and Squamish鈥檚 Cody Caruso.
Heidi Van Brummden from Garibaldi Highlands won the one-mile race, posting a time of 8:38. Vancouver鈥檚 Glen Hall placed second.聽
