Full Nelson set to open

New bike trail ready to ride

It's time for 麻豆社国产to experience the Full Nelson.

Mountain bikers are invited to join the 麻豆社国产Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA) on Saturday (May 5) for the Full Nelson bike trail opening in Squamish.

Built by Ted Tempany, the trail building company Anthill and volunteers including Danny Frey, Lindsay Gosnell, Wayne Goss, Leah Orosco, Chelsea Hurford, Brandon Semenuk, the extension is just over one kilometre long. The trail is a golden dirt snake run that rolls, swerves, dips, and dives down the one-kilometre extension to Half Nelson

Originally, Tempany flagged the line more than 10 years ago and it has taken a great deal of time to get the permits in place to build the trail. Construction began in September 2011 and since then the trail builders have worked long days all winter to get the trail ready for the grand opening. All levels of riders (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) will be able to enjoy the Full Nelson.

"Building the trail was easy but getting permission and some budget was very difficult," Tempany said. "Thanks to the Province of B.C., SORCA, Anthill, and of course Red Bull, the first step of Full Nelson has been realized. I look forward to riding the new trail with everyone on May 5."

The trail will officially open on Saturday at 10 a.m. and riders can experience the new trail until 4 p.m. There will be a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all riders and spectators, bike suppliers on site with a demos from Giant, Rocky Mountain and Devinci, shuttle services provided and a chance to meet and ride with the pros. Some of the riders scheduled to attend include Semenuk, Stevie Smith, Thomas Vanderham, Andrew Shandro and others.

After the ride day, there will be a screening of Strength in Numbers at Quest University. Strength in Numbers is an action sports film that explores mountain bike culture through the experiences of the world's best riders. The viewing is scheduled to take place at 8 p.m.
