Galileo seems to be peaking at the right time and that could be bad news for all the other teams in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL).
The defending champions blanked first-place Khalsa 1-0 on Sunday (March 11) to improve to eight wins, five losses and one tie this season and clinch third place in the league. The victory comes one week after Galileo beat second-place Sikh Temple 3-2.
Lawrence Gauthier scored the lone goal as both teams were mired in a midfield stalemate for most of the morning. It's the first time that Khalsa has been shut out all season, with goalie Allan Carson picking up the shutout for Galileo. Khalsa, who earlier this month clinched the top spot in the league, dropped to 12 wins and two losses.
The other early game saw Sikh Temple return to its winning ways with an 8-0 win over Automind. League-leading scorer Bruno Freitas scored four, Randeep Chesta scored twice, with Victor Inhejieto and Gurpreet Rai adding singles. Temple improved to 10 wins, three losses and one tie and will finish in second. Automind fell to six wins, seven losses and one tie and will place fourth.
The afternoon game was cancelled, with the Ellis Moving Eagles-Zephyr being recorded as a 0-0 draw.
Sunday (March 18) marks the final week of regular season action for the HSMSL, with the playoffs starting the following week. For more information on the league, visit www.howesoundmens.snappages.com.
