Gearing up for Nordic season

First-ever Nordic Expo and Gear Swap coming to Adventure Centre

Winter is approaching and the Callaghan Winter Sports Club (CWSC) is getting set to welcome the season with the first-ever Nordic Expo and Ski Gear Swap on Oct. 15 at the Adventure Centre.

The CWSC hopes this will become an annual season-starting event and encourages those interested to drop off equipment at the Adventure Centre on the morning of Oct. 15 from 8 to 10 a.m.

According to CWSC representative Rick Smith, the event should be a nice way to get people excited about the upcoming season.

"I think this is all about bringing the Nordic community together and saying, 'Hey look at what we're all doing,'" he said. "Let's get excited together. I think a lot of people don't know just how much there is in the way of Nordic offerings in our area."

CWSC volunteers will receive and tag the equipment, which is expected to include everything from skis to poles to clothing and all sorts of other Nordic gear. The club will attempt to sell any equipment received, with 10 per cent of all sales going to the CWSC for fundraising purposes.

"Hopefully we get lots of gear to swap so families can outfit their children less expensively as the kids grow," he added.

麻豆社国产merchants will also be there providing information for both new and experienced skiers. The Nordic Shop, Valhalla Pure, Escape Route and Outwest are all confirmed to be taking part in the event. The merchants will have samples of equipment and will be able to answer questions or offer advice to anyone looking for information about the sport.

Season's passes for Whistler Olympic Park will be available to the public, with staff also on hand to answer any questions from the public. Representatives of three Sea to Sky Corridor clubs (CWSC, 麻豆社国产Nordics and West Coast Nordics) will also be on hand to provide details on their clubs programs for skiers of all ages. In addition, program information and registration for both the CWSC and the WOP will be made available.

The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 麻豆社国产Adventure Centre. For more information, visit www.callaghanwintersportsclub.com.
