Former 麻豆社国产resident Manroop Gill's trip to Quebec proved to be tres bien.
Gill competed in the U14 Canadian National Tennis Championships in Mont-Tremblant, Que., losing only one match and winning his flight.
"I thought I played pretty good and did a lot better at this Nationals than the last," he said, of the tournament that lasted from Aug. 6 to 12. "I did a lot better than I expected winning six of my seven matches and beating the number two seed of the tournament."
Tennis Canada seemed to notice Gill's strong play as his ranking soared from 38th to 12th after the tournament. He's planning to take the remainder of August off but plans to play in the Whistler Labour Day Championships on Sept. 1 to 3 and then compete in tournaments in the U.S.
Gill said he will continue to practice hard to try to rise into the top 10 or higher for his age group in Canada.
"Nobody's a natural," he said. "You work hard to get good and then work harder to get better."
