GSL looking for players

Junior football league hoping to start two teams in Squamish

The Gordon Sturtridge Football League (GSL) is back and looking for young pigskin players to hit the field for the 2012 season.

Local organizers are looking to put together a Peewee (10 to 11 years old) and a Minor (12 to 13) team and are also looking for volunteers to help out with coaching duties.

The league is made up of players from the Sea to Sky Corridor and North Vancouver and teams generally have two practices and one game per week. All games are played at Brennan Park in 麻豆社国产or Norgate Park in North Vancouver, usually on Sundays.

Peewee and Minor divisions feature tackling and all players are responsible for their own football cleats and pants. The GSL will supply players with the use of mouth guards, jerseys, helmets and shoulder pads. Equipment pickup and fittings will be scheduled before the start of the season.

Tackle teams usually have 16 to 20 players, with 11 players on the field at all times. Players will get the chance to play both offence and defence. The tackle divisions use the Football Rules Book published by the National Federation of State High School Associations andGSL plays four-down American football.

Those interested can register online at www.gslfootball.ca and can contact league organizer Rob Ryan at (604) 898-9785 for any additional information.
