Squamish鈥檚 Harry Head is officially the king of the Northwest Cup.
The Team 麻豆社国产rider capped off a successful 2014 downhill riding year with a seventh place finish at Northwest Cup #6 in Port Angeles, Wash. but he still managed to take home the season crown for picking up the most points throughout the six races this year.
Head placed in the top three in four of the six races, including a first place finish at race #5 in Stevens Pass, Wash. to claim the title of 2014 NW Cup series champion for Cat 2 Men 15 to 18 division.
He also placed third in the BC Cup and with the strong season has qualified to move up to Cat 1 for 2015.
It鈥檚 been a quick turnaround in the sport for Head, who was a newbie to the sport in 2012 when he joined Team Squamish. He originally competed in cross-country, but made the transition to downhill for 2014 and it鈥檚 been a smooth move for the Grade 12 Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) student.
He plans to continue training during the winter months and is participating in the new Cycling Academy program at HSSS when school returns. He鈥檚 also targeting participation in the Canada Cup and other international events for 2015.
鈥淢y wife and I are proud of Harry鈥檚 focus and commitment to the sport of mountain biking,鈥 said his father David Head in an email. 鈥淭he passion of Team Squamish, sponsors, supporters and the community as a whole cannot be overstated. It's fabulous for today's youth.鈥
