After coming up short in Port Angeles, Squamish鈥檚 Harry Head bounced back with a first-place finish at the second B.C. Cup downhill mountain bike race of the season at the Race at the Ranch in Kamloops on Sunday (June 1).
Head blazed through the downhill course in two minutes, 13.35 seconds to capture the top prize in the Junior Men division. His run was more than two seconds faster than the second-place finisher Levi Harapniuk from North Vancouver.
Several other 麻豆社国产riders made the trip to Kamloops including: Keara Clark (first, masters women), Matt Hardwick (eighth, elite men), Jonathon Cook (27th, elite men), Sidney Slotegraaf (28th, elite men) and Lee Jackson (31st, elite men).
Meanwhile, Rhys Verner continued his strong 2014 season at the Nimby Fifty cross-country race in Pemberton on Saturday (May 31). Verner finished second in the 14 to 19 age division and 13th overall with a time of two hours, 31 minutes, 31 seconds.
His younger brother Hunter Verner also had a solid debut, finishing fifth in the 14 to 19 age division in 3:09:42. Squamish鈥檚 Sarah Greenwood was the only local to win her age group with a time of 3:19:47 to capture the 35 to 39 female crown.
Other locals competing at the event included: Jeff Reimer (14th overall), Davey Mitchell (15th) , J.D. Disney (26th), Joel Harwood (28th), Matteo Abel (66th), Brandi Heisterman (67th) and Carl Goldstraw (68th).
