Experience and perseverance appears to have paid off for the Howe Sound Curling Club's (HSCC) 70-plus men's team.
The squad, which is made up of Norm Rutherford (skip), Paul Lancaster (lead), Len Dumka (second), Fred Toth (third) and Bill Rempel (fifth), beat out several bigger curling clubs in Tsawwassen at the Zone 3 finals to qualify for the provincials in Kimberley that finished today (March 9). Results were unavailable at press time.
The team has never qualified for the provincials but was a runner-up at the Zone 3 finals two years ago. They beat out North Vancouver, Gibsons, Tunnel Town and Coquitlam on their path to the provincials.
In other curling news, the team of Bert Biglow, Donna Kirkham, Dumka and Terry Aldridge took home first place in the B.C. Rail Curling Bonspiel, which took place at HSCC on Feb. 26. The tournament featured 12 teams with players throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor.
