The curling season is officially over and the Howe Sound Curling Club (HSCC) marked the end with an annual awards banquet on March 10.
The men's league was won by Brent DiMarzo's team, which also includes Jon Mulville, Shane Price and Mike Lonsdale. The team also won the men's playoffs.
Brenda Sims, Jo-Anne Hoyrup, Chris Ackerman and Shawna Young won the women's league, and Kristen Fewster, Carrie McCreedy, Evelyn Eby and Ann Hendy won the women's playoffs.
The mixed league was won by Don Dorosh, Karen Vanzella, Dick Dorosh and Carrie McCreedy, and the team of Juan Olson, Dave Moore, Pat McDowell and Kevin Salter won the mixed playoffs. Seniors wrapped up their morning leagues with a three-day bonspiel and banquet lunch.
The club was fortunate to have Fewster move to 麻豆社国产last year and play in the women's league. Fewster mainly curls with her sister, Jen Rusnell, out of Prince George and their team qualified for the 2012 B.C. Scotties playdowns, competing against the likes of Kelly Scott, Kelley Law and Marla Mallett, all present or past B.C. champions.
There are two more events on the calendar. The HSCC's annual general meeting is on April 11 at 7 p.m., and a golf fundraiser is planned on Saturday, May 5. Everyone is welcome and should contact the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf and Country Club (SVGC) for more information.
A few changes are planned for next curling season, one of which is a new daytime league on Mondays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The club hopes the competitive league will attract retirees, seniors, as well as shift workers, stay-at-home parents, or anyone else who wants to enter a team. Teams can be all men, all women or mixed. The club also hopes to attract more mixed teams for Thursday and Friday evenings. There will also be a junior league to run on Wednesdays after school along with the Kids Rock program for beginners.
