HSMSL returns to the pitch

Sunday soccer league returns to Brennan Park

The Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL) returns to the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 8) and a brand new team has entered the fray.

Automind has been rechristened as Ocean Sun Geotech, a team that makes its re-debut in the afternoon game on opening weekend.

Joining them will be returning teams Galileo, the Ellis Moving Eagles, Sikh Temple, Lilwat FC and two-time defending champion B&B Excavating.

Opening weekend sees the Eagles take on Sikh Temple and archrivals Galileo and B&B tangle in the 10 a.m. game. Ocean Sun Geotech battles Lilwat in the noon game.

Games take place on Sundays, usually with a pair of games scheduled for 10 a.m. and noon. The league continues until late November, when a winter break is scheduled. Play resumes in mid-February and continues until the middle of March.

Teams play 20 games before the playoffs, for which every squad automatically qualifies - stronger teams often get byes or easier paths to the final.

One new wrinkle to this season is that the league will be employing referees from out of town.

League president Jose Oreamuno said the HSMSL is still looking for players and all skill levels are welcome to join the league. The league will be having a draw for players without a team on Sunday and add the players to existing teams. Anyone interested is asked to come to Brennan Park on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Anyone with questions about the HSMSL can contact Oreamuno at (604) 898-5579 or via e-mail at [email protected].
