It was a successful trip north for 麻豆社国产biathletes Holden Jones and Hunter Sones.
The duo returned from Prince George after a strong showing that saw Jones win both of his two races and Sones capture a first and second.
"We were really impressed with the way the kids raced and handled the cold weather," said Brian Jones, West Coast Nordics club president, noting that the weather dipped to 20 below zero on Sunday (March 6). "The kids were really pleased with how the weekend and the cup finished out."
It was the final two races of the B.C. Cup, which took place on Saturday and Sunday (March 5 and 6) at the Otway Nordic Ski Club, just west of Prince George.
Saturday saw Jones easily outperform the competition in his four-kilometre midget individual race. He posted a net time of 24:33, besting the second-place racer by 1:46. Sones also had a solid Saturday, placing second out of 13 competitors in the five-kilometre juvenile individual race. With a net time of 29:37, Sones finished just 10 seconds behind the winner Yegor Konechnyy.
It was more of the same on Sunday for Jones, as he bested four other racers in the 2.3-kilometre midget sprint. His net time of 13:03 narrowly edged second-place Liam Tweedle. Sones capped an impressive weekend by winning the juvenile 3.3-kilometre sprint on Sunday. In the sprint, Sones edged Konechnyy by just two seconds, posting a net time of 16:21.
Squamish's Hannah Levine finished fifth in the midget four-kilometre individual event on Saturday and fifth in the 2.3 km midget sprint on Sunday.
The scores ensured that Jones won his category for the six-race B.C. Cup series. Jones won all four of his races and Sones also had a great season, winning four golds and two silvers in the six races.
Next up for the duo will be the North American Biathlon Championship, which will take place at Whistler Olympic Park from March 31 to April 3.
