Tuesdays are soon going to become kids days at the 麻豆社国产Valley Golf Club (SVGC).
Brian Avey, the club鈥檚 general manager, told The Chief he鈥檚 looking forward to the youngsters taking over the course.
鈥淲e are shortening up the first six holes for parents and guardians along with younger youth and giving them an opportunity to play on the course,鈥 he said.
The program kicks off on June 17 and will run every Tuesday until the end of August. Children will golf for free and the parent鈥檚 or guardian鈥檚 green fee is $12.
鈥淚鈥檝e听been pushing for this for a while now and I was excited to get it approved,鈥 Avey added.
To help get more momentum for the project, the SVGC is hosting an equipment fair on Saturday (May 31) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Avey said he鈥檚 been collecting unneeded equipment from members and there should be a good selection of used sets and clubs at the fair.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a chance for folks to get start-up equipment for next to nothing, with any proceeds plowed back into this initiative,鈥 he said.
In other SVGC news, the club is hosted the B.C. AAA high school provincials on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 27 and 28). For more details on that tournament and how the Howe Sound Sounders team fared, check next week鈥檚 edition of The Chief.
The next big tournament for the SVGC is the 44th annual 麻豆社国产Men鈥檚 Amateur on June 14 and 15. Cut-off to register for the event is June 9. For more details, visit www.squamishvalleygolf.com.
