Krawchuk, Gebhardt take home the gold

Local soccer stars help Douglas Park team win U-15 division in Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Players Showcase Tournament proved to be lucky for local 麻豆社国产soccer stars Jamie Krawchuk and Zach Gebhardt.

The two were invited to play in the U15 boys 1st division at the tournament, which wrapped up on March 20. Krawchuk and Gebhardt ordinarily play on the Gold U15 麻豆社国产Red Devils but joined up with the Douglas Park Rangers for the tournament and helped lead the Rangers to victory in the tournament.

The fact that they were asked to join the Rangers in the first place was quite an honour, as the Rangers won the U15 gold division this past year. However, in Las Vegas, Krawchuk and Gebhardt both made valuable contributions to the Rangers' success.

The Rangers allowed only one goal all tournament and were buoyed by Krawchuk, who played center-defence and Gebhardt, who played in goal. The Rangers won their first game over Fort Lowell, Ariz., 1-0 and then defeated Las Vegas Premier 3-1 to move on to the semi-finals for their division. They went on to defeat the Las Vegas Heat 1-0 in the semis and then shut out Arizona's San Tan Legacy 1-0 to win the tournament.

Head coach Nick Perugini, who also coaches the University of British Columbia men's varsity team, praised the efforts of both boys and noted that their outstanding contributions helped the team secure the tournament victory.

Las Vegas was kind to several 麻豆社国产players as Jag Tatla and Taran Bir also captured bronze in the U18 division, playing on a team from West Vancouver.
