It's the last chance to hit the water with the 麻豆社国产Paddling Club this year as they present their final Toonie race of the season, which takes place on Sunday, Sept. 26.
It's the fourth race of the year after a successful event in August that attracted, among a handful of others, Olympic gold medallist Hugh Fisher.
麻豆社国产Paddling Club president Dave Berisford said this race wasn't originally planned, but due to high demand they decided to schedule one final race.
Competitors must register at 8 a.m. at Nexen Beach, with the race starting an hour later.
There is a $2 fee to take part with an additional $9 required for insurance if a racer isn't a member of the 麻豆社国产Paddling Club or Canoe Kayak British Columbia.
The route begins in the 麻豆社国产Estuary, goes westward around a land outcrop near 麻豆社国产Terminals and proceeds southeast to Darrell Bay and back to Nexen Beach.
The race will see paddlers travel close to nine and a half kilometres but there is also a shorter course available.
Paddlers are also invited to attend a brunch following the race. Ian Lowe from the SPC said the location is still to be determined but that it's an opportunity for everyone to fuel up and share paddling stories after an intense time out on the water.
There will be draw prizes at the end of the race and the group encourages all ages and boat types to take part. Locals can also rent a boat at the 麻豆社国产Valhalla Pure Outfitters outlet.
This race will be the final event for the SPC but Berisford said that the group is planning to run eight educational training pool sessions in the fall and spring at the Brennan Park Aquatic Centre.
Those attending will learn more about safety on the water and gain more experience in their boats. Details on the times and dates for the sessions are forthcoming.
