The B.C. Luge Association (BCLA) is hoping locals celebrate St. Patrick's Day in a unique way - on the hills of Whistler Olympic Park (WOP).
The Learn to Luge on Snow event is set for Saturday (March 17) and the group is inviting local residents to try out the sport in an environment that fosters learning and fun.
"Natural" or snow luge is similar to tobogganing in that competitors go down a snowy hill instead of the ice-covered tracks seen in the Olympics. Coaches from the BCLA will be on hand to teach the basic skills of the sport and offer any advice for newbies.
The event is open to all ages and those hitting the hill must bring a ski or snowboard helmet and wear proper winter boots. Goggles and gloves are recommended, with all other equipment provided by the BCLA.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at WOP and costs $15 per person to participate.
