Lepine wins gold in Fernie

HSSS grad picks up fourth medal of the season at NorAm Cup event

The many talents of 2012 Howe Sound Secondary School (HSSS) grad Sarah Lepine shone through in Fernie recently.

Lepine picked up her fourth ski cross medal of the NorAm Cup season on March 10, adding a gold to go with a previous gold, silver and bronze she picked up from races earlier this season.

"I won qualies by a lot and just stayed in front the whole day," she said in a statement. "It felt really great to get another win under my belt. I have been in a bit of a slump lately and it's really nice to break out of that/ Hopefully it carries over into my next race."

The win came after a fifth-place finish and a crash on the first day of racing on March 9.

Lepine was one of the few athletes who had a good weekend from the Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC). Head coach Drew Heatherington called it a challenging course that was very technical and fast.

After participating on the Howe Sound Sounders football and rugby teams during her tenure at HSSS, Lepine will return to the school this spring as an assistant coach with the rugby team.

She will continue her ski cross season next weekend when the WMSC heads to Panorama. For more information on the team, visit www.wmsc.info.
