Locals fare well at ‘Kids of Steel’

Â鶹Éç¹ú²úyouth made a strong showing at the Delta Triathlon Kids of Steel event on Saturday (April 26).

Young Â鶹Éç¹ú²útriathletes proved they’re ready for the Â鶹Éç¹ú²úYouth Triathlon on May 11 with several strong showings at the Delta Triathlon Kids of Steel event on Saturday (April 26).Ìý

The top local finisher was Elly Hoskin, 9, who placed third in the eight to 11 girls division with a time of 17 minutes, 58 seconds. Hoskin competed against 41 other competitors in her division.

In the eight to 11 boys, Squamish’s Rylan Armstrong placed sixth out of 33 boys with a time of 19:46. Both Hoskin and Armstrong had to swim 100 metres, bike 3.75 kilometres and run one km in their division.Ìý

Meanwhile, a pair of local underage girls proved they belong in the 12 to 15 age group. Linnea Uunila and Michaela Hoskin, both 11, placed seventh and 10th, respectively, out of 37 racers.Ìý

Uunila completed the 300 m swim, 7.5 km bike ride and two km run in 32:03, while Hoskin finished with a time of 35:15.
