Looping the lakes for fun and cash

Annual trail race attracting top talent with new prizing

For the second straight year, the annual Loop the Lakes trail race will kick off in May, and organizers have sweetened the incentive for winners with cash prizes.

The 21-kilometre distance will see the top three male and female finishers walk away with a little extra in their wallet. Race organizer Jen Segger said the new prizing is attracting some bigger names, but the event is all about kicking off the running season and having fun.

The race is all about a great morning out at the lake and having fun on our fabulous trails, she said of the May 25 event. With a distance for everyone, there is no reason to not come be a part of it. It's a great race for people wanting to test early-season fitness or run their first race and equally as good for the speedster looking for a fast time.

Participants have the option of running an eight, 15 or 21 km race. The kids' race will also return and is free to all children. The kids run their one km race starting at around 11 a.m. Parents are welcome to run with their children.

Segger said the race course is in great shape after all the recent warm weather and added lots of random draw prizes will be given away to the racers. She said she hopes to send away as many people as possible with some sort of prize.

There will also be professional chip timing at this year's event. Last year saw a 麻豆社国产sweep in the 21 km race, with locals Jim Sandford and Zoe Dawson posting the fastest men's and women's times, respectively.

The event is a fundraiser for 麻豆社国产Search and Rescue (SSAR) and the Challenge by Choice Inspirational Awards. Segger said she is still looking for volunteers and those interested can get more details by emailing her at [email protected].

There will be a day of registration allowed, but Segger noted that the entry fee will increase on Saturday (May 18). For more details on the race, visit www.challengebychoice.ca/events/loop-the-lakes-trail-race/
