He made the team, but now he needs your help.
Squamish鈥檚 Alex Cairns is no stranger to competition. He raced down the slopes in the provincial championships for sitskiing in 2009. Soon after, Cairns joined the B.C. Adaptive Ski Team. Two years later, Cairns was invited to his first National Prospect camp. And last year he competed in the world cup race in Panorama, B.C.聽
This year, Cairns was offered a spot on the Canadian Para Alpine Ski Team. It鈥檚 a big deal, he wrote on his fundraiser site.
鈥淏y joining the National team I will now have many amazing opportunities in the next three years leading up to my ultimate goal of representing Canada at the 2018 Paralympics,鈥 Cairns wrote.聽
But to join the team Cairns needs to cough up a $10,000 team fee. The team fee covers flights, accommodation, coaching fees, lift tickets and race entries. It鈥檚 due by April, 2016. On top of that, Cairn faces a $5,000 bill for a new race seat and leg cover and an additional $5,000 for food, equipment and airline baggage fees.聽
