Mariners sweep Kermodes

VIU wins all four home and home games against Quest

A winless weekend for the Quest men’s and women’s soccer teams has delivered serious blows to each club’s playoff hopes.

Both teams played a set of home and home games against the top ranked VIU Mariners and came up on the short end of the stick both at home and on the road.

Quest opened the weekend in Nanaimo on Saturday, Oct. 4, with the women falling 3-0 and the men losing 3-1.

It wasn’t much better in Squamish, as the women lost 2-0 and the men were outscored 2-1.

The pair of shutout losses were devastating for the women’s team, who can now finish no higher than third place. A loss or tie in the team’s remaining four games and they will finish fourth or lower.

The women’s team currently sits in fifth place in the Pacwest with a record of one win, seven losses and three ties.

Quest’s losses have also left the men’s team on the outside of the playoff picture. The Kermodes are tied with the Langara Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot with 11 points, but Langara is ranked higher due to a better goal differential.

The men’s team sports a record of three wins, six losses and two ties with four games to go in regular season play.

The Kermodes are also only one point above the Capilano Blues, who are in sixth place in the Pacwest. The Mariners have essentially clinched first place for the men and only seven points separate second from sixth.

The teams return to the pitch for what are basically must-win games on Saturday (Oct. 11) when they travel to North Vancouver for games against Capilano. Quest then returns to Â鶹Éç¹ú²úon Sunday (Oct. 12) to host Douglas College. The home games kick off at noon for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.
