A winless weekend for the Quest men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer teams has delivered serious blows to each club鈥檚 playoff hopes.
Both teams played a set of home and home games against the top ranked VIU Mariners and came up on the short end of the stick both at home and on the road.
Quest opened the weekend in Nanaimo on Saturday, Oct. 4, with the women falling 3-0 and the men losing 3-1.
It wasn鈥檛 much better in Squamish, as the women lost 2-0 and the men were outscored 2-1.
The pair of shutout losses were devastating for the women鈥檚 team, who can now finish no higher than third place. A loss or tie in the team鈥檚 remaining four games and they will finish fourth or lower.
The women鈥檚 team currently sits in fifth place in the Pacwest with a record of one win, seven losses and three ties.
Quest鈥檚 losses have also left the men鈥檚 team on the outside of the playoff picture. The Kermodes are tied with the Langara Falcons for the fourth and final playoff spot with 11 points, but Langara is ranked higher due to a better goal differential.
The men鈥檚 team sports a record of three wins, six losses and two ties with four games to go in regular season play.
The Kermodes are also only one point above the Capilano Blues, who are in sixth place in the Pacwest. The Mariners have essentially clinched first place for the men and only seven points separate second from sixth.
The teams return to the pitch for what are basically must-win games on Saturday (Oct. 11) when they travel to North Vancouver for games against Capilano. Quest then returns to 麻豆社国产on Sunday (Oct. 12) to host Douglas College. The home games kick off at noon for the women and 2 p.m. for the men.
