Martin takes home four medals

麻豆社国产skier has successful weekend at Apex Mountain event

Mikayla Martin continues to rack up the medals on the Teck K2 tour.

The 麻豆社国产native scooped up one gold, two silvers and a bronze during the tour's weekend races at Apex Mountain, just outside Penticton.

Martin kicked off the event with a silver medal in the giant slalom on Thursday (Feb. 9), finishing nine hundredths of a second behind winner Meg Cumming of the Apex Mountain Ski Club.

She followed that with a first-place finish in a giant slalom race on Friday (Feb. 10) morning, beating out second-place finisher Stephanie Fleckenstein by almost two seconds. Martin's first run of 51.04 seconds was the second-fastest time on the mountain of any racer, male or female.

Later that afternoon, she picked up a third-place finish in the slalom on Friday. Again, it was a tight race with Martin finishing two hundredths of a second out of second place and one second out of taking home the gold.

The final race of the weekend for Martin saw her pick up an additional silver medal in the slalom on Sunday, with Fleckenstein grabbing the gold.

It was a great weekend overall for Martin and her Whistler Mountain Ski Club (WMSC) teammates, as the club captured 14 of 24 total podium positions at the event. Next up for the WMSC K2 athletes will be the Teck Parsons Race in Whistler on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18 and 19).
