Miller wins national title

麻豆社国产mountain bikers win big at downhill race

Squamish鈥檚 Miranda Miller has been crowned a national champion.

Miller capped off a strong year in the downhill biking circuit with a first place finish in the elite women division at the downhill nationals in Sun Peaks on Sunday (July 12).

She finished the course in 4:09.55, beating second-place rider Claire Buchar from Whistler by two minutes and 42 seconds.

Miller wasn鈥檛 the only local cyclist to succeed at the event, as Logan Van Eesteren grabbed top spot in the U17 sport men division. He bested Calgary鈥檚 Joshua Regan by nearly seven seconds in the win.

Other local cyclists in the top three included: Don Van Eesteren (second, open men 30-plus) and Jessie McAuley (third, U17 expert men). Other 麻豆社国产top 10 finishers were: Jaime Hill (fourth, elite women), Chad Hendren (fourth, 40-49 master men), Willem Zwiers (eighth, expert men) and Sidney Slotegraaf (eighth, elite men).

In other downhill news, Squamish鈥檚 Harry Head continued his European vacation with a race in Wales on Sunday. Head competed at round five of the British Downhill Series in Moelfre, Wales and placed 14th with a time of 2:51.25. He said racing across the pond was a fun experience.

鈥淚t was fun to participate in such a renowned downhill race series event and I look forward to the opportunity to race here again,鈥 he said. 鈥淩acing internationally, in Scotland and Wales, was a great experience. I learned lots, made new friends and had an enjoyable family vacation in the process. It鈥檚 now time to head home to Canada for more racing adventures.鈥

Head returns to North American soil to race in Canada Cup #2 in Invermere this weekend before racing in the BC and NW Cups and then Crankworx later this summer.
