After a weekend full of action in their home pool, nine members of the 麻豆社国产Pirates swim club are heading to the provincials.
Brennan Park pool was packed on Saturday (Aug. 3) and Sunday (Aug. 4) with nearly 500 swimmers all battling for a shot to compete at the 55th annual British Columbia Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA) Provincials in Coquitlam from Aug. 16 to 18.
Mikayla Lorimer and Jaina Jose were the only Pirates to qualify in three individual events. Lorimer had a first place in her division's 100-metre backstroke, a second in the 200m individual medley and a third in the 50m fly. Jose made the cut with seconds in her division's 100m and 50m fly, along with a third in the 100m freestyle.
Lorimer also received another honour, being named to the Division 4 Regional Medley Relay team, which will be representing the Vancouver District. This honour has special meaning as she was selected by opposing coaches.
Other Pirates heading to the provincials include: Sarah Dale (50m free and 100m breaststroke), Myrthe Haddeman (50m fly), KJ Kimura (100m breast, 50m free, 200m medley relay and 200m free relay), Daniel Russell (50m free and 100m back), Jack Omeasoo (50m free, 100m fly, 200m medley relay and 200m free relay), Oli Jarrett (100m free, 200m medley relay and 200m free relay) and Luke Parry (200m medley relay and 200m free relay).
"The 麻豆社国产Pirates and coaching staff are very pleased and excited with the weekend results," said Pirates vice-president D'Arcy Lorimer in an email. "I am extremely grateful to all the parent volunteers who donated their time to make it happen as smoothly as it did. I had many positive comments from the various clubs regarding the pool at Brennan Park, and in particular at how good the new lighting is."
The nine Pirates will next head to the BCSSA Provincials in Coquitlam at the Spani Outdoor Pool on Aug. 16 to 18.
