Cancel the parade for the Howe Sound Cannons.
Last year's North Shore Men's Baseball Association (NSMBA) champions came up short in their quest to recapture the title, losing 7-4 to the Reds on Saturday (July 27).
Postseason action for the Cannons started on July 22 with a 7-4 win over the A's. The playoffs continued in North Vancouver on Saturday (July 27) and featured a double-elimination format.
Howe Sound kicked off Saturday with an 11-2 loss to the Reds. According to the Cannons' David Jones, the team couldn't muster any offence and Howe Sound's defensive play didn't support starting pitcher Jeremy Galley.
The Cannons stayed alive later that afternoon with a 7-3 win over the Brewers but met their match in the form of the Reds and were eliminated from the playoffs.
"It's disappointing but it's nice to let another team win for once - it keeps them motivated," said Cannons first baseman Tyler Magee.
"We didn't put together our best effort and lost the belt to the Red Bastards," Jones added. "I really can't think of much in the way of offensive highlights."
Jones said the Cannons struggled defensively against the Reds, committing six errors in the field.
"I hope they take care of theplastic ware trophy better than wedid," Jones said. "We willbe back for it."
Magee and Jones said they wanted to thank the many fans who packed the bleachers of Laroy Watt Field all summer long and said will be back to re-claim the NSMBA crown in 2014.
