Jim Douglas is looking for a few helping hands.
The Orecrusher Race organizer is looking for assistance to ensure the race is back for its sixth straight year next May.
"In order to commit to another race in 2011, I need help with pre-race marketing, promotions and development," said Douglas. "If I'm unable to attract some committed people, I don't think I will be able to continue providing the event solo."
The Orecrusher is held annually to raise funds for the Don Ross Secondary School's Outdoor Leadership Program. Students from the class volunteer to help run the event and the class receives all the proceeds raised.
Putting the race together is a lot of work for one individual, said Douglas.
"It's been a lot of work developing, promoting and running this event. But I admit I don't plan on continuing without spreading some of the workload around."
The event usually obtains enough volunteers on the day of the event but finding people for the various organizing positions in the early stages is harder to come by.
Douglas is looking for a pre-race marketing and promotions director, a course development director and a venue set-up director.
"Unless I am able to develop a core group to help, I will have to cancel the 2011 event," he said.
The event is tentatively scheduled for May 21, 2011 but the final decision on whether the event will take place will be made on Nov. 26, 2010.
Anyone interested in helping to keep the event going is asked to contact race director Jim Douglas at [email protected].
