Over-40 soccer league to kick off

New league starting on Sunday, looking to grow

Experienced 麻豆社国产soccer players will get a chance to hit the pitch thanks to the brand new over-40 men's soccer league.

League founder Dave Harrison said he saw the potential in the new league after talking to several older players in the Howe Sound Men's Soccer League (HSMSL).

"The idea started about a year ago," he said. "A couple of the older guys approached me and asked me if I knew anybody that might be interested. We've just been talking and figuring things out and then myself and Kevin Doherty finally decided to sit down and get it going."

Harrison said the league will use a smaller field, play seven-a-side with 30-minute halves and feature no slide tackling or offsides.

"This is basically to get back some of the guys who have left the men's league or don't feel comfortable playing in it anymore," he said. "They still want to play and this will be more of a drop-in or fun league for them."

The league will kick off on Sunday (March 4) at 9 a.m. and will continue for the next six weeks. Harrison said there's two teams of 20 players registered but he's hoping for at least two more teams for the re-launch of the league in September.

It's $25 for the final six weeks and Harrison said anyone interested can come down to Brennan Park on Sunday or contact him via email at [email protected]
