The 麻豆社国产Pirates were well represented at the 2014 BCSSA Provincial Swimming Championships in Kamloops from Aug. 11 to 17.
A total of 11 local swimmers made the trip to compete against over 1,500 swimmers, divers, water polo players and synchronized swimmers during the event.聽
Eli Tindall continued his strong showing at the championships, competing in four individual events with his best showing in the 100-metre backstroke, finishing 13th. His weekend finished on a high note with a bronze medal in the Division 5 200 m regional medley relay. Tindall swam the leadoff backstroke portion in a time of 32.21 to help his team capture the bronze.
KJ Kimura also had a good weekend, finishing eighth in the 100 m breaststroke and 12th in the 50 m free. He was also elected to the regional medley relay team where they finished fourth.聽
The Pirates youngest swimmer, nine-year-old Kai Bolla, made consolation finals in both the 50 m free and 50 m backstroke, while eight-year veteran Alex Jevons swam to fifteenth place in the consolation finals of both the 200 m IM and 100 m back. New Pirate swimmer Brandon Cheal took almost seven seconds off his 100-metre butterfly to place 23rd at his first provincials.
The Pirate boys relay team, consisting of Mees Haddeman, Gage and Eli Tindall, and Brandon Cheal, finished in 11th place. Sarah Dale, competing at her last Provincial Championships, finished in 12th place in the 100 m breast, and head coach Daniel Russell made finals in the Division 8 100 m back, finishing in sixth place with a season鈥檚 best time of 1:01.45.聽
Autumn Cramb competed in the 100 fly, finishing 23rd, and an injured Mikayla Lorimer finished 18th in the 100 and 50 m fly and 22nd in the 100 m back.聽
The Pirate swimmers, coaches and parents now get a well-deserved month off while Brennan Park undergoes its annual maintenance. Head Coach Daniel Russell, assistant coach Emily Hennigar and junior coaches Alex Jevons and Oli Jarrett will be back in the pool Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on聽September 23.聽
