It was standing room only all day at Brennan Park pool on Sunday, May 31.
The 麻豆社国产Pirates swim club hosted its annual end of May meet and it was the biggest turnout ever.
鈥淲e had 49 麻豆社国产Pirates athletes competing, ranging in age from five to 17,鈥 said Pirates executive D鈥橝rcy Lorimer. 鈥淭his is the most entries the Pirates have had in over nine years since I have been with the club.鈥
The meet attracted nine teams from all over the province and 352 swimmers hit the pool all day long.聽
麻豆社国产swimmers excelled at the event, with nine first-place finishes. Wyatt Pedersen posted a provincially qualifying time in the division seven boys 100m breaststroke and also snagged first place in the 50m freestyle.
Other Pirates who finished first included: George Sherlock (Div. 7 boys, 100m backstroke), Oli Jarrett (Div. 6 boys, 100m freestyle), Levi Karasz (O Cat 1, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke), Kyle Lowenberger (6 and under boys, 25m freestyle), Brandon Cheal (Div. 6 boys, 100m butterfly), Sidney Cramb (6 and under girls, 25m freestyle) and Mikayla Lorimer (Div. 5 girls, 100m backstroke).
Pirates members Jarrett, Eli Tindall and Jack Omeasoo swept the boys division six 100m freestyle, and Sherlock was named top boy and Lorimer named top girl at the event. Sherlock had one first, two seconds (200m individual medley and 50m butterfly) and one fourth (50m freestyle). Lorimer captured one first, one second (200m individual medley) and one third (50m fly).
The Pirates are competing in the British Columbia Summer Swimming Association all summer and have seven more meets throughout the Lower Mainland before the regional鈥檚 at the North Shore Winter Club on Aug. 8 and 9.
Lorimer said he was grateful to all the volunteers and noted that Pirates president Dave Jevons was elected as president of the Vancouver and District region and will preside at provincial meetings on a two-year term. He added that nine local parents were recently certified as deck officials, and Lorimer himself was promoted to senior BCSSA desk official and served as the senior meet referee on Sunday.
